Tony Howarth AO
Non-Executive Director

Tony was appointed as Non-Excutive Director of Viburnum in 2007.  He has more than 35 years’ experience in the Banking and Finance industry and has held several leadership roles within Australia and Internationally including Managing Director of ASX listed Challenge Bank Ltd and CEO of Hartley’s Ltd.

Tony is currently Chairman of Alinta Energy and ASX-listed BWP Trust.  He is also a Non-Executive Director of Coventry Group Ltd.

Past directorships include Wesfarmers Ltd where he was also Chair of the company’s Audit Committee, Chairman of Home Building Society Ltd and Deputy Chairman of Bank of Queensland Ltd.

Tony also has a strong involvement within community and business organisations. He is currently Chairman of the St John of God Foundation, is a former Chairman of St John of God Health Care Inc and Catholic Health Australia. He served on the Senate of the University of Western Australia, was the inaugural Chairman of the Committee for Perth and past President of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia (Inc).

Tony is a Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Financial Services Institute of Australia. In 2002, he was awarded an Order of Australia for his services to business and the community. He has an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Western Australia and is an Adjunct Professor at the University’s Business School.
